“Nobody Can Stop Us”: Rep. Mark Green Discusses Unifying Americans During Exclusive Appearance for Spencer Patton’s Speaker Series
Wide-Ranging Conversation Centered Around Congressman’s New Book, “We Before Me: The Advantage of Putting Others Before Self"
BRENTWOOD, TENN. – Congressman Mark Green (R-TN 7th District) highlighted the importance of unifying Americans during his appearance at Spencer Patton’s Speaker Series – a newly launched media venture by the Tennessee-based entrepreneur featuring interviews and events with policy makers and thought leaders.
“We Before Me: An Exclusive Discussion with Congressman Mark Green” tackled Rep. Green's political career, current issues before congress and the congressman’s newly released book, We Before Me: The Advantage of Putting Others Before Self. Released this year, Rep. Green’s book addresses the role social media has played in deepening societal divisions and suggests ways to heal through empathy, collaboration and service.
As an example he cited during the Speaker Series, Rep. Green detailed how he started a group of Republicans and Democrats meeting together– with no discussion of policy at all.
“You just get to know what the other person’s story is,” said Rep. Green during the May 30 event at Patton’s Brentwood offices. “That’s the power of culture. It will captivate people if you get it right.”
“I really believe that if Americans are united, there is nothing that can stop us. The China issue, the Ukraine issue, the Israel/Hamas issue, the economy, the border, we’ll fix it all if we can just come together. Because when Americans come together, nobody can stop us.”
A successful business leader, decorated combat veteran, ER physician and former Tennessee State Senator, Rep. Green has 24 years of military experience, including his role as the Special Operations Flight Surgeon in Operation Red Dawn, which led to the capture of Saddam Hussein. He also has a diverse background in emergency medicine and political leadership. He is a strong advocate for balanced budgets, support for military families and addressing global issues such as China's influence.
“I have had the privilege of spending time with Congressman Green these past few months, and he has clarity and perspective on why so many issues fail to gain traction and sees a path forward,” said Patton. “We were honored that he agreed to spend an evening with our circle of friends and neighbors, talking authentically about what’s really going on in our nation’s capital.”
Patton’s Speaker Series and soon-to-launch podcast, Signature Required, mark a continuation of Patton’s community outreach efforts. In 2023, he launched the Patton Foundation, a springboard for young entrepreneurs in the state. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $25,000 in grants to Tennessee students through Patton Entrepreneurship Grant (PEG) Challenges, a “Shark Tank”-style competition series at schools with individual grant prizes worth up to $5,000.
Patton’s Speaker Series continues July 11, 2024, as Kevin Menezes – founder and senior pastor of Every Nation Mumbai – joins Patton to discuss the state of free speech and religious persecution in India. Every Nation is a global family of churches committed to establishing churches, reaching the next generation on campus, and preaching the gospel to every nation. Due to limited space, guests are asked to RSVP here.
